Removing the centre board case

Will came round to help me with this job as it is way quicker and easier with two people (and then it still takes a lot of effort!!

The way you should start every days boat building!

careful use of a grinder made some jobs a lot easier - try not to set fire to the boat though!

To ensure we keep the boats shape we braced the thwart before cutting through it.  This allowed the case to be removed without the boat going floppy

We gently went around the case several time easing chisels between the hog and case (all the screw heads had been drilled out)

Using a pallet knife we eased (or whacked with a hammer) a gap between the case ply and the hog

Once we felt some give we worked from the back to the front with wedges of every kind!

Eventually she came out.... ... but we had cracked the hog quite badly at the front.

After a lunchtime beer and a sandwich we decided it was better to remove that part of the hog completely - out with the grinder again.

once out it looked quite neat and ready for a relatively easy repair.
