So what do I intend to do?
Well, the aim is to produce a championship winning boat (whether in my hands or someone else's!) that looks beautiful. This will entail completely stripping the boat of all old paint and varnish. Replacing the transom and centreboard case completely (new ones will be built from scratch using the old ones as templates) and repairing the delaminating parts of the hull. The boat will then have the latest Mk IV deck added. The woods I will be using will be Utile (same tree as Brazilian Mahogany, but from sustainable forests in Fiji) for the constructional work. Cedar for the simple battoning work inside the tanks, and sapele ply for the decks and centreboard case, varying between 4mm and 5 mm. I will be adding a brand new mast, boom, centre board, rigging, fittings and sails. |
